First Robert’s Soul Food Restaurant Scholarships Presented in Honor of Founder Michael E. McClinton
On May 8, 2024, Tony Royal, Owner and Operator of Robert’s Soul Food Restaurant, presented the inaugural Robert’s Soul Food Restaurant Scholarship in the amount of $500 to Amyra Sabir in honor of founder Michael E. McClinton.
“It was important to me to continue to reinvest in the community in which I serve. One of those ways was to create a scholarship especially for employees of Robert’s Soul Food Restaurant upon graduation from high school,” says Royal. “Moreover, I wanted this presentation to be in honor of my dear friend Mike who cared so much for young people as well everyone in the community.”
Additionally, Mrs. Marilyn McClinton joined him at Martin Luther King Jr. High School to present the Michael E. McClinton Memorial Book Scholarship in the amount of $250 to Amyra in memory of her husband. Little Miss Kennedi joined her grandmother in presenting the scholarship in her “Papa’s” honor.
“Mike was passionate about learning and passing on what he learned to someone else. He always said knowledge is the key to success,” shared Mrs. McClinton as she reflected on creating the scholarship.
Robert’s Soul Food Restaurant, located in Lithonia, Georgia, gives back to the community in many ways including weekly Bingo and Fun as well as special events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas affairs. The restaurant also partners with nonprofit organizations to serve the underprivileged in the East DeKalb, Conyers, and metro Atlanta areas.
